Patient Success Stories

Baby Mason

Before Baby Mason was born, a 28-week ultrasound revealed a tumor on the left lobe of his liver. It continued to grow throughout the pregnancy. After Mason's early delivery, doctors discovered the tumor had started compressing his left kidney and required surgery.

The pathology report revealed an epithelial hepatoblastoma, a very rare liver tumor that primarily affects children three years old and younger. Even though Mason underwent chemotherapy, his numbers didn't improve.

Mason's parents turned to MORE Health for a second medical opinion. Our Case Managers immediately contacted two expert physicians, both of whom questioned the original diagnosis. After additional testing, the physicians recommended a different type of chemotherapy than the one he'd previously received. He began tailored C5V adjuvant chemotherapy, which has a proven response rate of up to 95% with minimal side effects.

After six weeks of treatment, Baby Mason's AFP levels fell, indicating the chemotherapy had worked. Mason was cleared of any spreading of cancer and deemed highly likely to be cured.

Simon

When Simon was 13 years old, he suddenly got a severe headache and didn't feel well. His mother gave him cold medicine, and his symptoms disappeared. A few days later, the symptoms returned with a new intensity, so Simon's mother took him to the hospital. He underwent an MRI and CT scan that revealed a malignant brain tumor.

Doctors successfully removed the tumor in a craniotomy. The postoperative pathology report confirmed that Simon had a malignant brain tumor called an intracranial germ cell tumor. Simon's doctors recommended he begin chemotherapy. The treatment significantly reduced his white blood cell count, making him weak and affecting his mental state and appetite.

That's when Simon's parents reached out to MORE Health for a second opinion. Our Physician Specialist, a leading expert in germ cell tumors in adolescents, recommended a new treatment option called proton therapy. It was a success. Simon showed no signs of recurrence and was able to return to his active teenage self.
